PROCLAMATION NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
SEPTEMBER, 2010
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide coordinated effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security each September to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools; and WHEREAS, this event aims to increase public awareness concerning the importance of preparing for emergencies and to persuade individuals to take action; and during the month of September, the Talbot County Department of Emergency Services will urge residents to take measures to make themselves and their families better prepared for emergencies; and
WHEREAS, throughout the year, the Talbot County Department of Emergency Services promotes emergency preparedness by maintaining preparedness information on the Talbot County web site, giving presentations throughout the community on the importance of preparedness, providing printed information to groups, agencies and citizens, encouraging community-based training on how to be prepared and assist their neighbors in emergencies, and by maintaining the Talbot County Emergency Plan; and
WHEREAS, the County Council of Talbot County officially recognizes the Talbot County Department of Emergency Services and its community partners, including the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) which also serves as our Citizen Corp Council, Talbot County (DES) Emergency Medical Services, the Talbot County Department of Social Services and the Talbot County Health Department and many other volunteer and civic organizations that routinely offer their invaluable services to our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF TALBOT COUNTY, do hereby proclaim SEPTEMBER 2008 as NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH in Talbot County, and do commend this observance to all of our citizens.
